Visitors of all ages are invited into the world of artist Leonora Carrington. On view are original illustrations by Amanda Hall from the children’s book, Out of this World: The Surrealist Art of Leonora Carrington. Hands-on artmaking activities throughout the room explore surrealist and geometric art forms inspired by the KMA’s main exhibitions.
Artist
Amanda Hall is a picture book artist, living in Cambridge, England. She illustrates her own texts and enjoys collaborating with other authors. Following their success with The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau, Hall and author Michelle Markel collaborated on Out of This World: The Surreal Art of Leonora Carrington. Amanda Hall loves creating worlds with vivid color and images on the page. She works mainly by hand, using a combination of paints, pencil, crayon, and digital techniques.
Hall’s work has received wide recognition. Out of This World: The Surrealist Art of Leonora Carrington was named as one of Bank Street College’s Best Children’s Books of the Year 2020, and her art was exhibited at The Society of Illustrators “The Original Art” Annual Exhibition 2019.
