Educator Preview with Artist Sonja John

Educators are invited to preview Intermittent Islands: Four Caribbean Women Artists, followed by a discussion and workshop with artist Sonja John. Utilizing botanical forms, photographs of place, and translucent materials, John creates layered environments that incorporate elements of her surroundings in New York City with recollections of her family’s places of origin; Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and the Philippines. John will discuss her artistic process and lead a creative stencil project inspired by her site-specific installation, Balikbayan currently on view in The Pollack Family Learning Center.
