KMA Studio Series - Investigating Interiors: Fiber Arts & Mixed Media

Join artist and educator Monique Ford for a hands-on exploration into the intersection of fiber, form, and story. Drawing inspiration from the textiles featured in the KMA’s Diplomacy at Home: The Domestic Lives of the Founding Families exhibition, this workshop reexamines historical domestic craft through a modern artistic lens.

Participants will combine finger and hand-knitting techniques with assemblage and found objects to construct dimensional, mixed media sculptures. We will discuss how functional, domestic textiles of the past can inform contemporary fiber art.

What You’ll Learn: Basic hand/finger-knitting structures, assemblage composition, and methods for integrating alternative materials into fiber sculpture.
Skill Level: All levels welcome; no prior knitting experience required.
Materials: All core supplies provided (participants are welcome to bring personal found objects or textile scraps to incorporate).
