Jeanette Winter: Josefina

The Learning Center is privileged to feature folk artist Josefina Aguilar, whose family is part of a long tradition of clay artisans in Ocotlán, Mexico.  Josefina tells Aguilar’s story, from when she first learned to mould clay as a baby to the whimsical figures she makes today.  Illustrator and writer Jeanette Winter is faithful to the Mexican tradition in her charming counting book.To complement the illustrations in the book, several of Josefina’s clay sculptures are also on display.
Meet Jeanette Winter on Sunday, November 9, at 1:30 as part of our Clay Family Day

YOUNGER ARTISTS: Clay Stories

Showcase your students’ work in the Museum. Original art created in your classroom, inspired by your Museum visit to Conversations in Clay and Jeanette Winter: Josefina, will be displayed in the Learning Center Gallery. For example, consider making clay objects inspired by the Mexican folk art tradition or by contemporary clay artists. Or, create a class book inspired by the exhibitions. Items can be made by individual students, groups, or entire classes. Exhibition space is limited. Younger Artists will have a festive fruit punch and cookie opening.
